Photos from October Court Day

Posted by Mrs. Rogers:

One of my student groups is going to write a post about October Court Day, a huge 4 day festival held in our town on the 3rd Monday (and preceding Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) each October. I won't "steal their thunder" by going into too much detail about it, but I wanted to share some photos I have taken over the weekend. We are a fairly small town, but more than 200,000 people pour into our town during this event. Photography is my hobby, so pardon me if I bore you with too many photos : )

Here is a short video showing some of the Court Day crowd:

This year, cutesy animal hats are all the rage. Who would have thought a Sock Monkey hat would be a hot item?

  1. Court Day reminds us of powwows, fairs and carnivals. The hunting displays remind us of the Wyoming Game and Fish's Outdoor Expo that we visited in Casper last month. We got to shoot pellet guns, dart guns and shotguns. The crossbows were really cool! We went canoeing and practiced fly fishing and making fishing lures. Smokey the Bear was there and some of us shook his hand and took a picture with him.

All the food at the Court Day looks delicious. Can you send us a package with chocolate cheesecake on a stick samples along with the recipe? We also liked all the funnel cakes we saw in the video. Can you send us some samples?

We would like to come to Mt. Sterling someday and see Court Day for ourselves. Thanks for sharing this with us.
